Today at 106.5 studios, Cassadee Pope played a few songs on her radio tour. She was a member of Blake Shelton's team and the winner of Season 3 of the Voice...
If you can sound good in a conference room with just a guitar, you are doing something right. Her voice filled the entire room which was really nice.
Here is one of her new songs, "Easier to Lie"....
She sang all new songs so it was interesting to see how they were received. It is really interesting to see new artists and how they respond to all the travel, learning how to meet new people and how to perform new songs..
This is her current single, "Wasting All These Tears"....
It was really fun to see her...she had such a great voice. It will be interesting to see the songs she picks and if she capitalize on her success on the show...
It is that time again...summer in Kansas City. That means free country music concerts at the Kansas City & Power Light District sponsored by Q104, Miller Lite and Central States Beverage. Should be at almost all of them except where I am out of town or have baseball games.
Last night was the Downtown Hoedown with Clay Walker, Brett Eldredge & Charlie Worsham. It was a long, great night.
First up was Charlie Worsham. I had seen him open for Taylor Swift a couple of years ago. I didn't know anything about him then. Now I know his first song on the radio and some of the work he has done with other artists...
Here is a very fun song that I think went over really well, here is "Wired that Way"...
I got to meet Charlie before the concert and he seemed like a really nice guy. It seems like he has a really strong career ahead of him...
Here is his current single, a nice melodic song, "Could It Be"...
Next up was Brett Eldredge...I had seen him the night before with Chuck Wicks for one song and a couple of months ago acoustic. He is coming out with a new album in August I think...he played several of the new songs from the album...
Here is one of those new ones...it is called "How To Get There"...
Brett may be new, but there were lots of people there just to see him. Seeing him get the crowd on the stage, it was easy to see why...
I am hoping this is his next single, here is "One Mississippi"...
The crowd was almost completely full for Brett, can't wait to see him more this summer at CMA Fest...
And finally his current hit, here is "Don't Cha" with some girls dancing with him on stage...
Next up was Clay Walker...
Watching Clay Walker is like listening to a Greatest Hits album...he has so many good songs and they just keep coming. Here is one of the first ones he played "Live Until I Die"...
Clay Walker has been playing at Kansas City for a long time. He has great love for the fans here and the feeling is definitely mutual.
Since George Jones, almost every artist has been playing one of his songs...here is Clay Walker's version of "Bartender's Blues"...
And here is another song, "Bury the Shovel"...
This was a great cover, here is Clay doing Van Morrison's "Into the Mystic"...
Clay Walker knows how to play a crowd really well...he throws in some dance moves where needed, tips his hat when he needs to and is just an overall great performer...
And finally here is tropical version of "Then What"...
Overall, it was a fun way to kick off the summer and the Hot Country Night series at P&L. Look forward to many more night this summer...
Last night, Chuck Wicks performed a free show at the PBR Big Sky Bar in the Kansas City Power & Light District. It was for the PBR's 5th birthday party and it was a fun show.
Chuck Wicks hasn't played Kansas City for a while. And this time is fresh off releasing his new EP called "Rough".
Here is his current single from the EP and an awesome song, "Salt Life"..
Chuck has been around for about 5 years and this is only his second album release...the good news is that the songs are really good.
And here is another fun song from the EP, "Saturday Afternoon"...
Chuck Wicks sure attracted the female fans..they were really going crazy for him up front...
He also has some love songs on the EP, here is "Always"...
The great thing about the PBR Bar is how close fans can get...they run the place very well and it is a great place to see a show. It was great to be able to see Chuck in there...
Brett Eldredge is playing on the outside stage today...well he showed up to watch Chuck play and they did a song together...here is "The Joker"...
And finally here is the other single from the EP, "Fix Me"...
The EP is really great. Hearing all the songs live made it even better...going to see Chuck at his party at CMA Fest in a few weeks and I am already looking forward to it!
Last night at Kanza Hall, Parmalee returned with a full band show. They played there in November with just an acoustic show which was great. This time they were plugged in and brought new local artist Lance Pollard with them.
First up was Lance Pollard...I had never seen him before but I had heard positive things.
One of the first songs he played was "Just Another Night in Nashville"
He seemed really fun...he kind of reminds me of an early Chase Rice. I hope he would have some sort of career like that...
His team was there to shoot a video...here is the song they were filming for, "Sundresses and Boots"...
Next up was Parmalee....they put on a great show in November and I knew it would be great again...
Here is one of the first songs, "Back in the Day"...
Parmalee is a family band...they have cousins, brothers and best friends...you can tell they are close and like to be around each other...
Here is their great single, "Carolina"...
Team Cocktail was there...they happen to be there to deliver shots. And a great song for them, here is "Day Drinkin'"...
This is a song I hadn't heard before and it was great...here is "If You Love Someone"...
They said this is what happens right before you have a good time...here is "Wanna Take Y'All Home"...
And finally, here is the big party song, "Musta Had a Good Time..."
Again, it was such a fun night. I am going to see Parmalee again in Nashville somewhere during CMA Fest and I can't wait...I hope Kanza Hall gets them back soon!
Last night in Wichita, Jason Aldean bought Jake Owen & Thomas Rhett with him on the Night Train Tour.
First up was Thomas Rhett, he is so fun to watch live and he has so many catchy songs...
Here is his newest single, "It Goes Like This"...
I really can't wait for Thomas Rhett to put out a full album, I like all of the songs on his EP so far...
Up next was Jake Owen who has been on a serious roll....
Jake seems to be working on a new album, he played three new songs I think last night. They were all good and great summer songs...
I only got one video of Jake because apparently at this arena, if you have "SECURITY" on your back, it means you harass everyone for taking a video or being an inch into the isle. Some really little kids wanted to go closer to the stage for a second and were turned back. I have talked to numerous artists and none have really cared, especially anyone under 50 about that sort of thing. I think they understand almost everyone taking videos are promoting the artists and trying to share the music with other fans...
Here is a new songs from Jake, he said it was the first time playing it, here is "We All Want What We Ain't Got"...
Jake's show has gotten so good and filled with hits...he seems to change it up all the time which is cool...
I don't know who he is touring with next but I want to be there. Hoping he comes to KC soon!
Next up was Jason Aldean...
Jason's show keeps getting bigger and bigger...he has some very sweet video screens and light show. He has come so far since I was first seeing him...
I only got videos from Night Train last night, here is "When She Says Baby"...
Jason's set was full of hit after hit with some of the new songs sprinkled in...I think he could release any of them and they would do well on the radio...
And here is another song off of Night Train, here is "This Nothin' Town"...
Jason went from side to side of the stage, giving all the crowd plenty of attention.
And here is his latest hit, "1994"..
And the single he had before with Luke Byran and Eric Church, "The Only Way I Know..."
Overall, it was such a fun night. I am glad I went down to Wichita to see and I would be glad to see it again. Jason puts on a great show...
Last night at the PBR Big Sky Bar in the Kansas City Power & Light District, Craig Campbell held a small acoustic show in conjunction with the release of his new CD, "Never Regret".
He played some of the new songs from his CD "Never Regret"...here is the first song on the album "Truck-N-Roll"..
It was just Craig and his guitarist..it was pretty fun to see him play...
Here is another one of the new songs...."Keep Them Kisses Comin'"...
Team Cocktail was there too...they have a partnership with Craig and have produced a really cool shirt. I got one and it is really sweet.
Craig seems like such a nice, shy guy...he sounded great too. He did a cover of "He Stopped Loving Her Today" which sounded perfect.
Another fun party song for the summer...here is "Topless"..
And finally here is his single, "Outta My Head"...
What a fun night...Craig is coming back to the area a few more times this year and I can't wait to see him with the full band...
Last night in Kansas City at the Sprint Center, Carrie Underwood brought her Blown Away tour. It was a little different for me since I took my six year old daughter. We were pretty far back and we had to leave a little early too.
First up was Hunter Hayes...
Here is his new single, "I Want Crazy"...
I really think Hunter Hayes is talented...he sounded really good and the crowd was really into him.
Another song I really like, here is "Somebody's Heartbreak"...
Next up was Carrie Underwood, the crowd was very ready for her to come out and was so happy.
Here is one of her first songs, "See You Again"...
Carrie has such a strong voice and so many hits...it is really surprising how many till you hear them all together.
Carrie has so many sweet songs....here is one of her first hits, "Jesus. Take The Wheel"...
During the show, part of the stage flew up in the air and went to the back of the arena...it was really cool to see and got her much closer to us.
She did a few songs out on the floating stage, here is "Get Out of This Town"..
And finally here is "All American Girl"...
Like I said, about this time my daughter was getting tired and had to go home. We still had a really great time and I think it is something she will remember for a long time.
